Manager of Community Information Network (CIN) in Nepal
Deepak Acharya has been serving as the Manager of the Community Information Network (CIN) in Nepal, which is a satellite network that shares news, information, and content among all 382 community radio stations that are affiliated with the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal (ACORAB), spanning across the country. It also ensures that local news from different regions reaches a national audience, and supports and promotes grassroots expression. The news of the CIN is the most popular news in Nepal, estimating that approximately 6.7 million people tune in regularly.
He oversees the overall development and management of the CIN and ensures professional integrity of news and radio programme of the CIN. He has spent his entire professional career in the community radio sector. During his 22 years of journalism, he has been deeply engaged in every aspect of radio programme production, from conceptualising and planning to script writing and reporting. He has produced thousands of radio programmes and live radio shows, organised hundreds of field discussion programmes, enhanced capacity of hundreds of radio journalists, and facilitated many events and workshops.
Deepak is also a prolific writer, contributing articles to national and local print media outlets such as The Himalayan Times, Republica, Raising Nepal, Nagarik Daily, Gorkhapatra, Rajdani Daily, Annapurna Post, Naya Patrika, Samachar Patra, and various magazines. Additionally, he is actively involved in overseeing multi-donor funded project activities especially related to media intervention.
He holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism, and is currently pursuing an M.Phil. in the same subject at the same university. His continued passion, dedication and contributions significantly enrich the landscape of community radio in Nepal.
