Building on our work training migrants in video production in 2022 as part of the MIDEQ Hub, Dr. Maria Rosa Lorini returned to Johannesburg and Cape Town in early 2023 to work with the same organisations and some of the migrants who had been trained the previous year to support them in developing more advanced videos, mostly providing advice on dealing with the challenging issues that migrants face in their daily lives in South Africa.
The following is a selection of these videos made in Cape Town and Johannesburg. To watch the videos in the sections below, simply click on the images to the left, scan the 2D barcodes on the right, or use the highlighted links in the text above each video. The migrants who made these videos would be delighted if you would like to share them and make use of them, but please do acknowledge their names and that they are made available through the work of the UNESCO Chair in ICT4D at Royal Holloway, University of London as part of MIDEQ WP9 on migrants, digtital tech and inequality.
Please note that all these videos were made by migrants to reflect their opinions about the subject matter at the time they were made, and both their views and any legal issues discussed may well have changed subsequently.
